Where we are
As it gets
By car - From Catania, through the provincial San Giovanni La Punta, Viagrande, Zafferana until Milo; or along the highway to Messina and exit at Giarre and then following signs for Macchia di Giarre, Miscarello or still climbing from Santa Venerina and continuing for Zafferana.
By bus - From the terminal of Catania (Piazza Giovanni XXIII), by bus AST (tel. 095 7461096); Acireale (Piazza Agostino Pennisi), with the bus Zappala & Torrisi (tel. 095 7647139); from Riposto (Piazza San Pietro) transport Buda (tel. 095 931 905).
From Catania, the airport and other areas with lines AST and Zappala & Torrisi you can easily reach the town's main square; Milo is accessible by car from Catania Fontanarossa and in about 30-45 minutes by highway A18 Catania-Messina exit Giarre, then follow the signs towards Milo.

Piazza Belvedere di Milo - Sant'Andrea Church
If you are planning to visit the Etna this is one of the three most favorable starting points; others are Nicolosi and Linguaglossa. Apart from Milo Mareneve rising fast up to the north-east of the volcano: Piano Provenzano. Along this road there is easy to visit the Cave of Thieves, which is about the only cave of all Etna accessible without having to follow paths difficult and inaccessible and therefore suitable to be visited by anyone. Only care right shoes, a flashlight and a little 'sense of adventure. Always Mareneve allows you to travel a stretch of road on the lava flow of 2002 which was recently paved. Once in Piano Provenzano you can just stay and enjoy a landscape almost entirely lava or you can take the jeep-bus that will take you to a height of 3,000 through the astrophysical observatory. The alternative is to Mareneve move to the south side of the volcano. Overcoming Zafferana follow the segaletica for Etna-south and you come to the base point Rifugio Sapienza.
